AI Tool Guidance for Department Research

AI tool options for Department of Psychiatry research are dependent on computing network.

UPMC Network

Microsoft Copilot is currently the only approved AI tool that is approved for use on the UPMC network.

Access to Unsanctioned AI can be requested. Note: Department of Psychiatry access approvals are extremely rare.

Pitt Network

Pitt Digital has the following AI tools available to researchers, depending on data classification:

Restricted Data - HIPAA

• Google Gemini

• Microsoft Copilot

Restricted Data

• Claude for Education

• Pitt AI Connect (API token generation)

• PittGPT

These tools are accessible to computers on the Pitt Network or through the Department's Pitt Virtual Machine from UPMC network.

Pitt access is the recommended route for AI use in Department of Psychiatry research activities.
